For those of you who have ever wondered what to do if you’re in a falling elevator, look no further than this blog post from Robert Krulwich.

Apparently, the oft-cited advice to jump just before impact isn’t a hot idea, as it “it only delays the inevitable.”

And yes, there have been studies.

So the next time you enter an elevator — so you can go downstairs to smoke a cigarette, to get in your car, then to text someone while driving and eating a bacon double-cheeseburger — rest assured that an elevator probably won’t be the cause of your demise. Probably.
